Phoenix roebellini (Dwarf Date Palm)

A small, very slender Phoenix species with a maximum of 10 cm thick, rough trunks and a rounded crown of up to 1 m (4 feet) long, soft, flexible, very fine feathery foliage. The edible but fade dates are about 1 cm long. It is often planted as one ornamental tree in Brazil, but is not native but originated from the flood area of large tropical rivers in Laos. Its properties make it a robust room or pot plant. The best date palm for the house in Germany and in cold countries with good care, can tolerate a few minus degrees only for short time. Our was planted in 2008, and is double trunked, already bears fruits!
