Musa 'Pacovan Ken'
Fruit Banana, Dessert Banana

		Musa 'Pacovan Ken'
is a cultivar which is very resistant against Black Sigatoka. It is a
tetraploid hybrid of the group AAAB, one cross between the cultivar
Musa 'Pacovan' and the diploid hybrid (AA) M53. The name Ken is one
honor for its breeder, Dr. Kenneth Shepherd, referent at Banana Tree
Genetic Improvement Program for thirteen years (1981 to 1994) in Cruz
das Almas, Bahia, Brazil. Musa 'Pacovan Ken' shows a larger
amount of larger fruits than the of Musa 'Pacovan', and the
fruits of this cultivar are sweeter and show a resistance against
falling of fruits from inflorescences like this from Musa 'Pacovan'.

		The
importantest features of Musa 'Pacovan Ken' is its resistance
against Black Sigatoka, the importantest banana disease. Added to this
it’s also resistant against Yellow Sigatoka and Panama Disease.
