Ornamental Banana
One in Brazil often planted very ornamental dwarf banana species of the section Rhodochlamys, which is very variable and exists in different cultivars with inflorescences in different colors of white over pink, orange to purpur. The most known cultivars are ‚Standard Lavender’ with lavender colored, ‚Leyte White’ with artichoke shaped, ‚Bronze’ with bronce orange colored, ‚Milky Way’ with white, ‚Lavender Beauty’ with lavender pink and ‚Royal Purple’ with purpurish colored inflorescences. It is grown as cut flower in Central and South America, but in Burma and Bangladesh at home. The plants grow to 5 to 12 feet (1.60 to 3.60 meters) tall. The small fruits are seeded and only edible when fully ripe, there is also a cross with Musa velutina, which is also widely available in Brazil. The cultivars are in Brazil hardly known, the most known in Brazil seems to be 'Royal Purple'.
