Eugenia neonitida (Pitangatuba)

Evergreen, 3 to 7 feet tall shrup from the family Mrytaceae from coast thickets from Espirito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, the foliage is dense. The leaves are firm and fuzzy, short stalked, sharp-edged at the top. The fruits similars to one carambola or one star fruit, only much smaller. The shrub is slow growing and hardy to 27°F. The plant does fruit only on sunny places, requires one  porous sandy or loamy soil, should stand in well fertilized soil, which is enriched by organic natural fertilizer. Already 2 years old plants begin to fruit. It does not require special care. It flowers in Brazil from September to February, the harvest time is from November to April.

The fruit can be eaten in-natura and used for juices. The fruit has a great potentical for production of icecream. Our both specimens are originated from Colecionando Frutas.
