Musa 'Nanica' (syn. 'Nanicão')

Fruit Banana, Dessert Banana

Very similar to the cultivar Musa 'Dwarf Cavendish' of the section Eumusa and the group AAA. It grows only to approx. 2.00 to 2.50 m (6 to 9 feet) tall. Its fruits are like the beloved fruits of Musa 'Dwarf Cavendish', the banana from the Canary Islands. The taste of full ripen fruits  is sweet and aromatic.

It is mainly grown in the Brazilian state  Paraná fort he export to Argentina, it is also cold tolerant there and takes low temperatures, but no frosts. Also in the state São Paulo it is grown like the pics from the banana plantation near São Pedro do Turvo are showing. We have a new plantation of 25 plants in groups in Lucianópolis.

Although one plant in the old stock has already set fruit, but only of poor quality. First in 2011 one of the specimens from newer stocks has set fruit at the pondside, this was of good quality, clearly the conditions are there ideal for growing bananas because of the higher groundwater level. Also one further specimen in the group near of the vegetable garden of Antonio showed fruit formation, clearly it has also found good conditions for that, in the half shadow, with much horse manure and much water.
