Musa ‘Mysore’ (syn. ‘Ney Poovan’, ‘Lady’s Finger’, ‘Apple’, ‘Farine France’, ‘Pisang Keling’, ‘Poovan’, ‘Thousand Grain’, ‘Palaynkoden’, ‘Fillbasket’, ‘Pisang assam keling’, ‘Champa banana’, ‘Klue Kai Fe-rang’, ‘Klue Nom Sawan’)
Fruit Banana, Dessert Banana
One of the most popular Indian cultivars of the section Musa, it is triploid and belongs to the group AAB. It grows to 16 feet and is cold tolerant.
The small fruits are thin-skinned and very sweet with sourisch touch. This cultivar should be one of the most productive cultivars in India. The plants are of the medium size, wind resistant, resistant against several diseases and pests, and are strong growing.
The pseudotrunk is attractive with darkbrown color shades, in the contrast to the pink colored leaf undersides. As very beautiful multi-purpose cultivar very recommended. The fruit of this cultivar stays firm until 2 weeks after ripening. 70 percents of all in India grown fruit bananas are from this cultivar.
In Brazil is this cultivar also grown more and more because of its better resistance against diseases and pests than Musa ‘Maçã’ and replaces together with Musa ‚FHIA-01’ the more disease suspectible Brazilian banana cultivars. It is resistant against rhizome borer and nematodes, also against Panama Disease and also nearly against Black Sigatoka.
Two specimens I got from Helton Josué and I plant them on the next day out. Best thanks to him and his wife. They thrive very well despite of the sandy soil and are disease resistant.
