Musa acuminata ssp. microcarpa
Monkey Fingers Banana
One of the recently to Europe and South America introducted bananas of the section Musa. One subspecies of the wild form Musa acuminata from the mountain forests of the mountain regions of Borneo, from where it’s relatively cold tolerant. It has a slender pseudotrunk and a narrow vertically growing leaves. The fruits are narrow and curved. Unfortunately the fruids are not edible, but perhaps for monkeys. This is the reason, that this subspecies is seed forming. One triploid or seedless cultivar might but have edible fruits. One possible candidate for our breed program, could be crossed with Musa basjoo amd triploidized then. One plant has already germinated at Colecionando Frutas.
The yellowish colored leaves have a chocolate-colored midrib, also the leaf sheaths are chocolate-colored.
