Musa itinerans ‘Burmese Blue’
Burmese Blue Banana
One unsually banana of the section Musa from Thailand with seed containing, purple-blue fruits. It is relatively cold tolerant. At the best it is cultivated as one ornamental banana, although it also used as cook banana in Thailand, the inmature fruits can be cooked as vegetable.
The plant grows very quickly and grows to 3.60 to 4.50 metres tall.
The hardiness in the temperate climate is not tested yet, should be tested. By wire bag method it should be overwintered or by the same winter protection method like Musa basjoo, but with thermostat controlled heating cables at the pseudostems and in the soil in the space of the corm. But also suitable as greenhouse or conservatory plant.
In the Mediterrean area, subtropics and tropics the outdoor cultivation is relatively simple if not too dry. Then it might bring yields regularly.
