COMMON NAME: TAIÚVA-AÇÚ
SCIENTIFIC NAME: MACLURA BRASILIENSIS
FAMILIY OF MORACEAE
COMMENTS: On the site of Frutas Raras there is a centuries-old tree from ordinary (Maculara tinctoria), most of the elderly aged 75 to 85 years talking about the period in which they enjoyed with the Taiuva Açu because of the fruits of the diameter of 4 to 5 cm, whose tree has large leaves and an almost thornless trunk. After a search of over 5 years we found finally 10 specimens on the side of a hill. We're not sure why only one specimen was fruited this year. This species is so rare (only 2 species of the genus Maclura is existing in Brazil), so that it is not described in the book “Arvores Brasileiras V 3”. We are producting seedlings from it.
