COMMON NAMES: CAMBUÍ CIPÓ DE ESPINHO OR MINE ACEROLA AZULADA DE ESPINHO
SCIENTIFIC NAME: DURANTA – SPECIES VERY CLOSELY RELATED TO D. SPRUCEI
FAMILY OF VERBENACEAE
COMMENTS: One writhing climber species, which grows to the crowns of the trees in the forest or forms drooping shrubs which form dense thickets in open speces. The plant has leaves that are reminiscent of acerola (Malpighia emarginata). The new shoots have trichomes or T-shaped hairs, so that it is a bit of confusion with the family of Malpighiaceae that has this feature. Recently a plant of this species with flowers and fruits was discovered in February 2011, which is belonging to the genus of Duranta and is nearly like Duranta sprucei, see the photo under: http://fm2.fieldmuseum.org/vrrc/max/VERB-dura-spru-2216241.jpg
The plant is rare, occurs in the semi-deciduous forest in the district of Angatuba, where it is growing in higher elevated areas, where the soil is very soil or more rarely on the infertile soil. If you can identify the species, please contact us by email under bananas.brasil@googlemail.com .
