Musa formosana

Taiwan Banana, Formosa Banana

The species from the section Musa is very similarly to Musa basjoo, but the petioles aren't winged and the leaves aren't rough and curly like Musa basjoo, the inflorescences are very similarly to the of Musa basjoo, the fruits are to 4 inches long and should be edible. The species is originated from Taiwan, but might be less hardy than Musa basjoo.

One specimen was brought by Helton Josué to me on 16th September 2009 and I planted it on the next day out. But the plant didn't thrive so well because of the sandy soil, since the sandy soil is too poor and dries too quickly. Therefore I transplanted it to the pondside in early December 2010. It is to hope that it will gain much more strongly, since there are also three Musa 'Nanica' are standing at the pond since some years and were grown well.
