Erythrina crista-galli (Coral Shrub, Coral Tree)

 

One deciduous shrub or small tree from the genus Erythrina crista-galli and from the family Fabaceae, orginated to Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia. It throws during the drought season its three-feathered and thorny leaves. During the summer the 8 to 10 inches (20 to 25 cm) long blossom inflorescences with many coral-red butterfly flowers are forming at the tops of the branches. Takes light frosts down to 23°F (-5°C) for short time.
